What to check in Houston

  • Look the company up on the Texas Comptroller taxable entity search to see that its business is active. (Texas Comptroller)
  • Ask whether the crew is the company's own or a subcontractor, and who to call if the drying equipment trips a breaker overnight.
  • If mold covers 25 contiguous square feet or more, Texas rules call for a TDLR licensed mold assessor and remediator, with some exemptions for houses. Check the license number on the TDLR search. (TDLR mold FAQ)
  • Ask for a written estimate and a daily moisture log before drying starts, and read anything before you sign it.

Questions people ask

Houston water damage questions

Who do I call first after water damage in Houston?

Stop the water if you can do it safely, keep away from wet outlets, and photograph the damage. Then call a restoration company and your insurer. If anyone is hurt or in danger, call 911 first.

Is flood water from Harvey style street flooding covered by home insurance?

No. Rising water from outside is flood, and standard Texas home policies do not cover it. That needs a separate flood policy. A pipe that suddenly bursts inside is usually handled by the home policy.

Do these Houston companies also work in the suburbs?

Several list nearby cities such as Katy, Cypress, Sugar Land and Pearland on their own websites. Check the areas on each card, and ask the company when you call.

Does this site do the restoration work?

No. This is a free directory. Your request goes only to the company you choose, and that company quotes and does the work.

Houston Water Damage Guide is not a restoration company. We are a free referral directory run by Rank First Labs Ltd. Listed companies are independent; they quote, do the work and are responsible for it. If you own a listed company and want a change or removal, email info@waterdamageguidehouston.com (done within 5 business days) or see For listed companies.
